One of the coolest things about this update? The new lighting system is automated, so the star turns on every evening without anyone having to manually switch it on. That means consistent, energy-efficient brilliance lighting up the night sky over Afton.

Another exciting feature of the new star is its ability to change colors for holidays and special events in Afton! 🎨✨ Whether it’s glowing red, white, and blue for the Fourth of July or festive green and red for Christmas, the star can now reflect the spirit of the season or an important community event. This wasn’t just a town project—local Star Valley High School (SVHS) students played a big role in bringing the new star to life! Students from the school’s welding and engineering programs helped design and build parts of the new structure, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to something meaningful for their community. Their hard work and craftsmanship ensured the star is sturdy and built to last for generations to come. It’s amazing to see young talent shaping the future of Afton—literally!

As if a brand-new star wasn’t exciting enough, Afton also introduced a new hiking trail leading up to Star Hill! This trail gives locals and visitors a chance to get a closer look at the star while taking in some incredible views of the valley along the way. If you’re not in town to see it in person, you can still check it out! The Earth Cam gives a live view of the star and the surrounding landscape, so you can get a little piece of Star Valley no matter where you are.
